Desarae Lambert is a First Nations Cree-English speaker who was born in The Pas and grew up in Mosakahiken Cree Nation. Throughout her life, she has cultivated a very strong social services employment background. This includes policing, childcare, youth programming, community and economic development. She currently sits as the Executive Director of The Pas Community Renewal Corporation with over 12 years of experience with this organization.

After the loss of her own family member Kendara Ballantyne, Desarae has become a strong advocate for MMIWG2S+ and is an Executive Member of KB Memorial. Established in loving memory of Kendara.

Along with her family and other organizers, they have raised awareness and called for social change through memorials, marches, and speaking with government officials. She is a champion of tradition and culture and believes education is the vehicle to a more inclusive community.

Our women and girls are sacred. They are the keepers of our culture, the nurturers of our future generations, and the heart of our communities. Yet, for too long, they have been stolen from us, vanished without a trace, or found in ways that shatter our souls. Their stories untold, their lives devalued.

Each missing person is more than just a statistic; they are a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a vibrant spirit extinguished too soon.

This alert system will ensure that no family will have to go unheard. It will represent the strength of communities coming together to stand in solidarity with families. We all have a role to play in ending this crisis as every life matters.

The Red Dress Alert will renew the commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices, supporting Indigenous-led solutions and advocating for policy changes that prioritize the safety and well-being of Indigenous women, girls and two spirit people. As we stand in solidarity, demanding justice, accountability and healing for all those affected by this ongoing tragedy. Together we can create a future where Indigenous women, girls and two spirit people are safe, valued and respected.”
