Giganawenimaanaanig & Mino'Ayaawag Ikwewag Fund

Giganawenimaanaanig is one of 5 organizations that administer the Mino'Ayaawag Ikwewag Fund. The purpose of the fund is to support Family members of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA persons and survivors of violence.

The fund may support individuals to further their education or participate in healing and wellness activities. It is also available to support persons with searches, memorials and court proceedings.

Eligible Costs

The following are Eligible Costs provided they are actually incurred and paid by the Recipient and, in Manitoba's opinion, are directly related to and necessary for the operation and delivery of the Program and reasonable in amount.

  • Education costs (tuition, books, equipment necessary for post-secondary education).

  • Costs to bring a loved one home.

  • Costs to attend court proceeding (travel, childcare/childminding to attend court).

  • Costs associated to search for a loved one.

  • Costs for memorials (funerals, vigils, sacred fires, headstones).

  • Costs to attend ceremony or other healing opportunities.

This funding is not intended to replace funding that is available through other programs and services.

Ineligible Costs

  • Legal fees,

  • Capital and housing expenses including rent or mortgage payments, utility payments, etc.,

  • Capital and living expenses including car payments, etc.,

  • Support for extended family members,

  • MMIWG2S+ education and awareness (available through different funding).
