Gerri-Lee Pangman (McPherson) is a proud member of Peguis First Nation. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she is a devoted wife, mother of four, and a loving Kohkum to two wonderful grandsons. Her advocacy journey began after experiencing the tragic losses of her sister, Jennifer Dawn McPherson, in 2013, and her aunt, Jennifer Johnston, in 1980, both taken by violence. In their memory, she co-founded J.D.MIndigenous Designs, using art to raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and honour their lives.

As a Sundancer, Buffalo dancer, pipe carrier, and respected community leader, she strives to use her art as a potent tool to keep the conversation about MMIWG alive and urgent. Her work stands as a testament to her resilience and unwavering commitment to her community and the cause. Throughout her journey, she has contributed extensively and wholeheartedly to the community. She has led beading circles and generously shared her story in numerous settings, including schools, universities, colleges, libraries, community centers, and organizations. Her dedication has taken her across Canada, where she has taught MMIWG families and staff of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls the art of creating beaded red dress pins.

Her dedication and impact have been honoured with several prestigious accolades, including the Oscar Lathlin Memorial Award and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal. As a current member of the Manitoba Government’s Matriarch Circle, she continues her mission to raise awareness and drive meaningful change. She firmly believes that together, we can honour the lives of those we have lost and who are missing and advocate for a better and safer future for all.
