The murder of the child Tina Fontaine outraged everyone in Canada. It chilled families across our Nation! This opened up the world of MMIW - a child found in the muddy waters of the Red River, the Alexander Docks. The trial of her killer Raymond Cormier was set free to live in his home community of New Brunswick but tried to return and was killed in Kenora! They say Justice has a way of making it right. Or The family of Sharon Abraham whose DNA was found at the Picton farm in Vancouver - her killer was killed in prison. The family knew their sister was vulnerable. We had so many horrendous cases and stories to tell the public and many families hold tremendous strength for their loved ones. Many hold Vigils, many continue to walk to shed awareness of their loved ones. Many hold hope to continue to search for justice and peace. It’s these stories that make our communities stronger and that will help us find solutions for these crimes. Standing in solidarity Standing in Strength with numbers is the way forward. Doing my best to help the families of the MMIW members is something I have always done and will continue to do. They all just want Justice and Safety. Safety to be an Indigenous person. It’s all we ask.
